Women in Engineering Day: Hayley Pells MSc CAE FIMI, Head of Garage IAAF

Date: Friday 24 June 2022

Thursday 23 June was International Women in Engineering Day (IWED), a global day celebrating the amazing work that female engineers around the world are doing to support lives and livelihoods every day.

To mark International Women in Engineering Day 2022, lets take a look at some women in our industry.

Siti Abdullah, UK Key Account Manager UK & Ireland, Brembo
Siti (pictured with Hayley Pells) is no stranger to the workshop, starting as a technician herself.  There are few in the industry who have not come across her in her professional capacity. After leaving the shop floor, Siti has worked as a manager for a repair shop, a friction specialist for a motor factor, then on to manufacturers, and now is working for one of the most recognised friction brands in the world, Brembo S.p.A.

Konstanze Scharring, Director of Policy and Government Affairs, SMMT
Policy and vehicle legislation require a strong understanding of industry as well as the mechanics of policy making. Since her return to SMMT in 2005, Konstanze has led SMMT’s strategic engagement with policy makers and stakeholders at UK and EU level on all political, economic, technical, environmental and e-mobility issues on behalf of the automotive sector in the UK.

Trinity Hutley, Winner of the prestigious IMI Student of the Year Award
Trinity now works as a technician at Barnfield College helping the next generation of vehicle technicians. With ambitions of becoming a lecturer herself, Trinity is at the very start of her career and will inspire the next generation of women interested in automotive roles.

Ann-Marie Dean, Area Sales Manager for DAYCO Europe SRL
Ann-Marie started her career as a Vehicle Technician apprentice. Swiftly progressing to a service environment for dealerships, Ann-Marie moved to working for DAYCO in 2018. A varied role, Ann-Marie is as often in workshops as she is at trade shows, delivering technical information from the global leader for research, design, and manufacture of essential engine drive systems.

Four women of an ever-increasing community of women in engineering roles specifically within the automotive sphere. Automotive jobs are diverse, offer opportunity to learn and grow, and are becoming increasingly accessible.
