SSNAP team to tackle Three Peaks for charity

Date: Thursday 27 April 2023

A team of 30 including Mountney managing director Dan Kimpton is to attempt a Three Peaks challenge to raise money for SSNAP, a charity that looks after sick infants and their families.

Kimpton, head of the automotive accessory supplier, and his family received support from the Supporting Sick Newborn and their Parents (SSNAP) charity after the difficult birth of their daughter Olivia.

To raise funds for the important work the charity does, Kimpton and the team will aim to complete the challenge to summit each of the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales in 36 hours.

“Our daughter Olivia had a difficult birth and start in life. Despite being told that she wouldn't survive or would need round the clock care, she has made an almost full recovery with mild cerebral palsy. Olivia is now almost four, has started school and is an incredible joy. We are incredibly lucky!” Kimpton said.

Olivia’s initial care and following recovery is put down to the tireless work by the team at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. One in ten babies need specialist care at birth and SSNAP supports sick and premature babies, providing specialist treatment including emotional and practical support through any trauma and upheaval.

The support received by the charity spurred Kimpton to raise funds and join the board to lead further fundraising and support initiatives.

“Since joining the board, I have led the launch of Little SSNAPlings, a support group for families that have been on the unit. This group is designed to offer a safe space where parents and babies can attend classes and have support from our care team after being discharged from the unit,” Kimpton adds.

Kimpton and the team will aim to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England’s Lake District, and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in Wales, the highest peaks in their respective nations, to complete the Three Peaks challenge.
