NGK stars in dramatic Speedway GP

It was a meeting full of high drama for the NGK-sponsored riders competing in the FIM Speedway GP of Great Britain – Cardiff.

Sweden’s Freddie Lindgren was the top performer, making the final at the Principality Stadium and finishing fourth behind winner Slovakia’s Martin Vaculik, Australia’s Jack Holder and Poland’s World champion and championship leader Bartosz Zmarzlik.

NGK pit-mate Robert Lambert made the semi-final stage and finished in fifth place but there was heartbreak for three-time former World champion Tai Woffinden, who crashed out of the event when leading heat 16 after scoring six points from his opening three rides, and there was also disappointment for 2022 Cardiff winner Dan Bewley who hit the tapes and was disqualified from his final ride, finishing ninth overall.

Woffinden said on his Facebook page that he had ‘loved’ the meeting until his accident, adding:

“So much love for all the support around the world and in the stadium. Until next time. Will update you all in a few days.”

Fans in the Welsh capital were treated to an epic night of racing in Britain’s biggest indoor motorsport event which saw fellow NGK-sponsored rider Steve Worrall, who was a wild card entrant, earn a creditable point.

Lindgren sits in second position in the 2023 championship on 114 points, 24 behind leader Zmarzlik, while Bewley and Lambert are in sixth and seventh positions respectively and Woffinden tenth as the series heads to Vojens in Denmark on September 16.
