Lawgistics: Furlough Claim Time Limit
Date: Wednesday 25 November 2020
If you have employees on either furlough or flexible furlough you should be aware of the new timescales for making a claim with HMRC.
The claim needs to be submitted within roughly 14 days after the end of the month for instance:
November 2020 claims - Claim by 14 December 2020
December 2020 claims - Claim by 14 January 2021
January 2021 claims - Claim by 15 February 2021
February 2021 claims - Claim by 15 March 2021
March 2021 claims - Claim by 14 April 2021
If you do not claim by the deadline you must have a “reasonable excuse” which are:
- Partner or close relative passed away shortly before the deadline
- You had a serious or life threatening illness which prevented you from making the claim and no one else could make it for you
- You had an unexpected hospital stay that prevented you from making the claim
- Delays related to a disability prevented you from making your claim
- You had a period of self-isolation which prevented you from making the claim and no one else could make it for you
- Your computer or software failed just before or whilst you were making the claim online or service issues with HMRC prevented you from making the claim
- Postal delays that could not have been predicated prevented you from making your claim
- A fire, flood or theft prevented you from making the claim
- HMRC error prevented you from making your claim.
Do make sure you don’t miss those claim deadlines to ensure a smooth furlough claim!
