Lambert achieves second SGP podium

Date: Monday 12 September 2022

England’s Robert Lambert – who is sponsored by NGK – is celebrating after recording back-to-back podium places in the 2022 FIM Speedway World Championship.

The 24-year-old finished in second place behind championship leader Bartosz Zmarzlik at the Danish Grand Prix to follow up his third place in the previous round in Poland.

Lambert was disappointed to run out of room in the final as he achieved his best-ever Speedway GP result, only to fall agonisingly short of his maiden victory.

He said:

“I was going for the win and we both went for the same bit of track. It’s close racing and with a couple more centimetres, I would have been there. But I am happy with a second place and that’s another step forwards after finishing third in Wroclaw.”

The meeting was held as the United Kingdom mourned the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, with everyone at Vojens observing a period of silence ahead of racing and no champagne celebrations as a mark of respect for the monarch’s 70 years of service.

Three-time World Champion Tai Woffinden was the next best placed NGK sponsored rider in Vojens, making the semi-final stage, but it was a disappointing night for double SGP winner Dan Bewley and Freddie Lindgren who finished in tenth and thirteenth place respectively.

John Money, of NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd, said:

”Robert has been in fine form recently and after finishing third and now second let’s hope he can win the forthcoming SGP round in Malilla, Sweden next weekend.”

Zmarzlik leads the championship on 128 points with Lambert in fifth place on 86 points, just five points behind third-placed Bewley. Woffinden is on 74 points in seventh position with Lindgren level on points but one place further back.
