The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation

IAAF takes lobbying message on road with regional meetings

Date: Friday 13 October 2023

The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) demonstrated its lobbying activity and provided a comprehensive snapshot of the latest legislation changes affecting the aftermarket, at its newly-launched regional meetings this week.

Held across three days, the Federation took its activity on the road for the first time, directly to its aftermarket membership. Visitors headed to Ring Automotive in Leeds, SMP Europe in Nottingham, and Hella in Banbury to benefit from an incisive analysis of IAAF’s latest updates on legislative topics, market intelligence reports, and training initiatives, plus hosts offered visitors a glimpse behind the scenes at their state-of-the-art facilities.

Mark Field, chief executive of IAAF, said:

“These meetings were designed to be more intimate with smaller groups in attendance across a variety of engaging locations. Regional meetings provide members with a great snapshot of what IAAF is doing to support their business and the important roles they can play across a wide range of issues.
“Being able to offer added value to members with in-person updates in different regions, hosted by members with a significant engineering capability, is an exciting method which we’ll certainly look to provide again in future.”

As well as updates on events and lobbying activity, along with the unveiling of a new member guide on the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulations Order (MVBEO) and what the implications are for the aftermarket, the regional meeting agenda revealed details of the Federation’s rebrand, with details to be shared more widely very soon.

The regional meetings also captured an overview of the MOT consultation, which looked at the frequency of testing and how the MOT could be improved. Members were given insight on the SERMI scheme and vehicle type approval, and bills set to change the landscape of competition law in the UK, which may have implications for aftermarket businesses.

With the addition of regional meetings to its events calendar, the Federation is continuing to create exciting ways of connecting with its diverse membership of aftermarket businesses, alongside its popular corporate golf day, glittering awards dinners, or the jewel-in-the-crown conference.
