IAAF shines a light on recruitment and skills issues in new webinar

Date: Friday 28 January 2022

The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) has successfully hosted its first service provider webinar, looking at the major issues around recruitment and skills in the automotive aftermarket and how companies can best address them.

IAAF president, Richard Welland, kicked off proceedings, before representatives from the newly formed Automotive Recruitment Alliance (ARA) joined the ‘question time’ panel for the first of the new series of webinars hosted by IAAF chief executive, Mark Field.

Throughout the session, the ARA shed a light on how the skills and recruitment shortage is affecting the industry, looking at the changing trends and attitudes within the recruitment sector, while offering informative insights on how companies can stand out from the competition in a post-pandemic era.

Specifically, the recruitment specialists discussed the shift to a candidate-centric market, highlighting the importance of understanding behavioural trends and candidate expectations and the need to focus on engagement with both existing staff members and potential candidates in order to achieve a long-term solution to the skills shortage and attract the best talent.

Autotech Group, Glen Callum Associates (GCA) and KPI People formed The Automotive Recruitment Alliance (ARA) at the end of 2021 in a bid to streamline the recruitment process for the aftermarket.

Collectively, each company’s recruitment specialism covers the entire automotive aftermarket from temporary vehicle technicians and MOT testers, permanent and interim technical and commercial staff, parts and customer service operatives, sales and marketing, through to senior board positions.

Announced at the IAAF Virtual Conference in December, the webinars will look to harness the expertise from IAAF’s service providers, enabling members unrivalled and exclusive information to further assist their business in the year ahead.

Mark Field, IAAF chief executive, said:

“It’s important that, as an industry, we pull together to share insights that can help to protect the future of the aftermarket and these new webinars will offer IAAF members free, unfettered access to the best support and advice from our diverse range of service providers.
“The first of the series was a great success and emphasised the value that our members can bring to the wider network. We look forward to rolling out more information on our webinar programme as the year continues.”
