The Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation

IAAF Activity Report w-e 12 May 2023

Date: Friday 12 May 2023

IAAF / UK AFCAR Lobbying work applauded

IAAF Chief Executive Mark Field attended the FIGIEFA General Assembly in Brussels, which also included a tour of the European Parliament. The trip was an important opportunity to promote the activities of the federation and UK automotive aftermarket and learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing other countries.

In a post-Brexit era, the work of IAAF and UK AFCAR on issues such as Block Exemption, MOT extension and type approval was applauded and the federation will continue to work closely with FIGIEFA, who have been extremely supportive across all of the UK aftermarket’s lobbying activity.

Progress on MVBEO
The CMA issued a consultation on 18 April requesting stakeholder feedback to the Guidelines that will be issued in support of the revised Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Order (MVBEO), which will come into force on 01 June 2023.

UK AFCAR welcomes the CMA’s intention to provide orientation on how competition law will be applied to automotive aftermarkets. This should foster competition in automotive aftermarkets, support effective competition and affordable mobility for consumers. The Guidance should address the most relevant market developments and help companies apply these rules in their business operations.

UK AFCAR contributed to the earlier consultation on the sector-specific order and was pleased to learn from the government response published on 2 May that several of its recommendations will be substantively reflected in the final Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Order (MVBEO) or the Guidance.

Events near capacity
The IAAF Exclusive Member Networking Event on 6 June at Resorts World and Garage Awards on 7 June are nearing full capacity. Members are obliged to secure their attendance as soon as possible.
