HELLA sponsors own driver in British Kart Championships

Date: Tuesday 16 April 2024

HELLA has signed on as one of the main sponsors for veteran kart racer Alex Magee’s run in the Wera Tools British Kart Championships 2024, who also happens to be one of their own team members, working in the Product Support department for Hella Gutmann Solutions.

31-year-old Alex drives with the Tonbridge-based GMS Kart Team, and he is competing in the British Kart Championships in the Rotax class, with the first event of the season set to take place at the PFI track in Lincolnshire from 19-21 April.

The sponsorship will see Alex’s Italian-made CKR kart emblazoned with the bright yellow HELLA logo, with the symbol also adorning his helmet and racing suit.

He will be one of 500 drivers competing in the various classes, with five events running through the summer. The season will reach its conclusion at Northamptonshire’s Whilton Mill track from 6-8 September. The final is also conveniently close to HELLA’s UK headquarters, where Alex is based. “I am delighted to be sponsored by HELLA,” said Alex. “I love the fact that the kart becomes a mobile billboard for the company, and anything we do will publicise HELLA.”

Alex has been racing karts since he was 13 and has been part of the GMS team for 13 years, becoming significantly more involved since 2022. On his aims for the season, Alex said: “Winning the season would obviously be great, but what we are aiming for is to achieve seeded driver status.”

The sponsorship has afforded HELLA the double opportunity to promote the company in the motorsport arena while also supporting a much-valued member of the team. “We are proud to sponsor our colleague Alex Magee in the British Kart Championships,” said Helen Goldingay, UK Marketing and Communications Manager at HELLA. “In his day-job he works diligently behind the scenes, providing vital tech support to technicians and garages using the Hella Gutmann range of diagnostic equipment and remote services. By competing in this way, both he and HELLA are being brought to the starting line.”
