FAI Automotive issues best-practice strut mounts advice as range grows

Date: Wednesday 28 June 2023

FAI Automotive has issued best-practice advice on fitment of its growing range of strut mounts, while introducing seven part numbers to complement its coverage of popular Land Rover applications.

As with most steering and suspension products, to maintain vehicle balance and control, FAI recommends that technicians follow best practice and replace left- and right-hand components in pairs.

The chassis specialist urges that this helps to prevent a bouncy and uncomfortable ride, while improving ride control. If one side requires replacement, it is likely the other side also requires replacement, says FAI.

FAI offers a great range of hardwearing strut mounts for a reliable repair every time.

Sold in kit form where required or as single pieces, the range services over 20,000 thousand applications. The FAI development team are always working to develop the latest design, meeting customers’ needs with an offering that covers 85 percent of the modern vehicle parc.

With 200+ part numbers currently in stock, FAI strut mounts bolster FAI’s growing chassis repair programme.

With this in mind, all of the new references recently added are in stock and ready to be shipped, with part number SS8042, a Rolling Bearing Strut Mount Front LH / RH, covering Discovery Sport (L550) and Range Rover Evoque (L538); SS8200, a Strut Mount Front Kit LH / RH, also suitable for the same two applications, as well as Freelander 2 (L359); and, SS11097, a Strut Mount Kit Rear LH / RH, applicable with Range Rover III (L322) and Sport (Ll320).

Meanwhile, a Strut Mount Front Kit LH / RH, part number SS11116, and a Strut Mount Rear Kit LH / RH, part number SS11117, covers Discovery III / IV (L319).

And finally, Range Rover IV (L405) and Sport II (L494) are covered with reference SS11118, which is a Strut Mount Rear LH / RH, and a Strut Mounting Kit Rear LH / RH, part number SS11134, offers coverage for Freelander 2 (L359) and Range Rover Evoque (L538).

As vehicle technicians will be aware, the strut mount serves as a fixing point for the top of the vehicles strut assembly to the chassis and insulates noise and vibration from the tyres and vehicle.

As a vibration damping item, strut mounts are subject to normal wear and tear, which can be accelerated by poor road conditions such as potholes.

Mayur Chauhan, Senior Product Manager at FAI Automotive, comments:

“Visual inspection of strut mounts can reveal potential failure in the form of damaged or worn components, excessive movement or corrosion. Warning signs of worn strut mounts can include clunking noises over bumps, excessive vibration, heavy steering, the car wandering from side to side and uneven tyre wear.
“We recognise the importance of having access to the latest fitment advice and therefore regularly provide customers with the most up-to-date information and are constantly developing and adding to our range to ensure market demand is met.”

FAI understands the need for quality for safety critical components, so all products are manufactured to meet/exceed OE Specification.

Only the best raw material is used in its factories for production and all components and put through rigorous testing. To ensure the job can be completed, FAI sells complete kits, which include strut mount and bearing.
