Charlie suffers in Spa

Date: Thursday 06 July 2023

NGK Ambassador Charlie Martin endured a testing time at Spa Francorchamps in round two of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe championship.

After a fantastic start to the season at Paul Ricard, Charlie and her teammate Jason Keats looked to keep the momentum going at one of the most iconic circuits in motorsport in their Lamborghini Super Trofeo Evo 2 run by Brutal Fish Racing.

The meeting got off to a strong start for the pair, with Charlie setting a blistering lap time in qualifying, even amongst traffic, to secure her first class pole position of the season with Jason following up with a strong performance in the second session that followed to claim P5.

Race one saw Charlie leading the class for her entire driving stint, before a race incident meant they were unable to continue and unfortunately again in race two another incident would see the team’s car unable to continue after it suffered damage and the race was red flagged with only four laps completed.

Charlie said:

"A difficult weekend at Spa on all fronts. I did my absolute best, securing pole position and holding P1 in class for my whole stint in race one, but the racing gods intervened and sadly our car didn't make the finish line.
"Race two brought heavy wet conditions, I was primed to jump in and start my stint but our car suffered damage from an impact that saw the race red flagged.”

Becca Knight, Marketing Manager of NGK brand owner Niterra UK Ltd, said:

“Charlie and Jason battled hard at Spa and were very unlucky in both races. I am sure they will be determined to get back on to the podium at the next round at the Nürburgring, Germany on July 28-30.”
