BorgWarner Aftermarket committed to sustainable operations

Date: Tuesday 18 July 2023

As part of the company’s focus on sustainable mobility and providing innovative solutions for vehicle electrification, BorgWarner is committed to reducing the carbon footprint of its facilities worldwide. The company’s Aftermarket headquarters in Kirchheimbolanden, Germany, has been compensating for CO2 emissions by purchasing carbon neutral certificates for all product transportation and shipments since 2021.

Kirchheimbolanden compensated 156 metric tons of CO2 greenhouse gases with atmosfair on 20.02.2023 as well as over 16 metric tons CO2 with UPS for the year 2022. These carbon neutrality certificates support projects like reforestation and wastewater treatment that offset the emissions of the shipment's transport. Additionally, the Kirchheimbolanden warehouse operations are entirely powered by green electricity coming from renewable sources.

“As part of the company’s Charging Forward initiative, we have dedicated our efforts to achieving carbon neutral operations by 2035,” said Michael Boe, Vice President and General Manager, Global Aftermarket, BorgWarner Emissions, Thermal & Turbo Systems. “We are proud of the successful measures being taken to support this important goal.”

BorgWarner is constantly expanding its spare parts portfolio and range of remanufactured products, thus contributing to a sustainable aftermarket industry. Throughout the past 30 years, BorgWarner’s process for remanufacturing has saved over 24,500 metric tons of aluminium and cast iron by reusing 5.2 million turbines, compressors, and bearings.
