Aftermarket tours SMP Europe’s state-of-the-art engineering centre at new IAAF regional meeting

Engine management specialist SMP Europe, home to the Intermotor, Lucas and Lemark brands, hosted one of three new regional meetings held by the Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation (IAAF) in October.

Attendees from across the aftermarket were treated to a behind the scenes look at SMP Europe’s state of the art engineering facility, at its Centre of Engineering Excellence within its headquarters in Nottingham.

Held on Wednesday 11th October, the meeting gave IAAF members the chance to see the engine management specialist’s in-house air mass meter production line, featuring high-end tooling and CNC machinery, all underpinned by an exacting quality and testing procedure.

Martin Turner, marketing director at SMP Europe, said: “It was great to welcome IAAF and a cohort of its members to our Centre of Engineering Excellence, to host its regional meeting and provide a snapshot of our extensive engineering and testing capability in Nottingham.

“Our extensive facility tour offered as part of the meeting included a comprehensive overview of our in-house test and calibration machines, all developed by our team of experienced engineers, to ensure product reliability through extensive and exacting quality assurance methods.”

At the meeting, IAAF members received a comprehensive update on the Federation’s events and lobbying activity, along with the unveiling of a new member guide on the Motor Vehicle Block Exemption Regulations Order (MVBEO) and what the implications are for the aftermarket. The meeting also provided an overview of the MOT consultation, which looked at the frequency of testing and how the MOT could be improved.

These are designed to provide members with a great snapshot of what IAAF is doing to support their business and the important roles they can play across a wide range of issues.
