Webinar tackles big issues on “electrification of the aftermarket”

Date: Friday 16 July 2021

Auto:resource and Automechanika Birmingham have successfully held the latest automotive aftermarket industry webinar ‘Electrification of the Aftermarket’.

The webinar, hosted by Mark Field, featured Quentin Le Hetet, General Manager at GiPA, Matt Cleevely of Cleevely Motors and EV, and Tom Denton, renowned Automotive Author.

This enthralling session focused on what decisions and developments are happening today within the automotive industry and, how the aftermarket needs to step up its preparation for an alternatively fuelled future.

The webinar began by directly looking at the ‘fear factor’ around electric vehicles and what the automotive aftermarket could do to gain confidence, with the panel suggesting that the independent automotive was in a good place when it came to offering service and repair of electric vehicles.

The EV market was then discussed, looking at the sales of EVs and their prediction for the future, bolstered by UK production and proposed introduction of more gigafactories.

Working with EVs was widely discussed by the panel, in particular how investment in skills, training and equipment would enable independent garages, motor factors and suppliers to increase their expertise in the market. A poll taken during the session revealed that under 10 percent of viewers felt their business was fully ready for an EV future.

All this plus discussions around garage standards, licensing and access to data made the webinar one of the most engaging to date.

Simon Albert, Managing Director of Messe Frankfurt UK, organisers of Automechanika Birmingham, said:

“Once again, the auto:resource webinar raised the level of debate throughout the industry and offered confidence to the entire automotive industry about the future.”
