Philips lights up the 2022 Auto Express Product Honours

Date: Monday 13 June 2022

Lumileds, the global manufacturers of Philips Automotive Lighting products, are celebrating a host of awards at the 2022 Auto Express Product Honours. The Philips Xperion 6000 Slim workshop inspection lamp scooped the title of 2022 Inspection Lamp of the Year, with its sister, the Xperion 6000 Pillar UV, taking a prestigious Highly Commended award, and the flagship Philips upgrade headlight - the RacingVision GT200 - took Highly Commended honours in the Headlamp of the Year category.

RacingVision GT200 - setting new standards for increased safety
The RacingVision GT200 bulb raised the bar for halogen headlights when it was introduced a couple of years ago, as the first bulb to deliver light that was up to 200% brighter than the industry standard bulb. It has won awards across Europe for its stellar performance since it was launched and it continues to do so.

In Auto Express’s mega-bulb test, the RacingVision GT200 topped the results in the peak brightness test and delivered the biggest area of light with more than 30 lux. These category leading results are down to the optimised bulb design, which provides higher luminance for a better view of the road ahead, with its ultra-performance beam reaching a full 80 meters further than the minimum length. Diamond Precision quartz glass also ensures more light output within the regulation limits and guarantees a sharp cut-off line for the beam - so as not to dazzle oncoming drivers - as well as a brighter sweet spot to give more brightness where it counts.

RacingVision GT200’s Quartz glass also gives greater thermal shock resistance, protecting the bulb's lifespan, while enhanced UV absorption protects the car’s headlight optic.

In short, Philips RacingVision GT200 lets drivers see more of the road ahead - allowing those behind the wheel to spot potential hazards sooner, react faster and position their car more accurately on the road. All in all, the result is a safer and more satisfying driving experience. Philips RacingVision GT200 is available in the most common headlight bulb types, H4 and H7.

Xperion 6000 Workshop Lamps - top performance, practicality and value
The Xperion 6000 Slim had already taken Best Buy honours in the Auto Express Workshop lights test, so it was always likely to fare well in the 2022 Product Awards. The lamp features a wide 100° beam angle from its long slim lighting unit which rotates through 270°, allowing the operator almost unlimited vision, through even the narrowest of gaps.

The 6000 Slim has three different outputs - like the other lights in the range. In the case of the Slim these range from 100-500 lm, yet it still offers a long operating time of up to 9 hours - depending on the levels of light required. With two different magnets - one on the base and one on the rear - and a useful torch in the tip, it is immensely practical, yet with its folding light blade, still light and easy to use. Auto Express was also extremely impressed by its durability and its ability to withstand the rigours of the workshop, crediting it with “a solid feel to this version that we didn’t encounter in others.”

With an SRP of £49.99, the lamp is a brilliant all-rounder as Auto Express itself described:- “Top performance and a great overall package.”

The magazine was quick to recognise, that though it is available to the public, the range-topping Xperion 6000 UV Pillar was designed for professional use. Yet Auto Express loved it and declared that, although it cost more than the other lights on test, it still represented great value for money and rated it highly overall:- “Aimed more at the professional rather than the DIY market, this is a great addition to any toolkit.”

The reason for all of the Xperion 6000 UV Pillar’s plaudits is simple - it has a host of features that mark it out as special. The lamp offers several powerful light sources: it has a premium LED movable main light, with three different outputs ranging from 100-500 lumen (lm) and a wide 100° beam angle; a high Colour Rendering Index (CRI) light and a unique UV light which allows leak detection.

The 6000 UV Pillar has a long-lasting battery and the user is able to locate the lamp with its “Find My Device” function, which comes as standard (the same function is also available as an option on the category winning, Xperion 6000 Slim).

“Everyone at Lumileds is thrilled by the recognition our products have been given here. The Philips Xperion 6000 range really redefines what both professional and serious home-users should be expecting in a workshop inspection lamp,” explains Richard Armstrong, Business Development Manager Automotive – UK & Eire for Lumileds, “With RacingVision GT200, we knew when the bulb was launched that it was a game changer and the fact that it has remained right at the top of what is an extremely competitive sector, demonstrates that quality of design and manufacture still really count. As ever, because road safety is our primary concern, we will continue to push the boundaries forward.”
