MOT testing in Scotland: update

Date: Wednesday 25 November 2020

The Scottish Government has announced that 11 areas in Scotland moved into protection Level 4 from 18:00 on Friday 20 November until Friday 11 December.

You can read more about the measures and which areas this includes on the Scottish Government's website.

What this means for MOT garages
MOT garages can remain open across all protection levels 0-4 in Scotland.

To help ensure MOT testing can be conducted safely, you can read our guidance for MOT testers about operating safely during coronavirus.

DVSA’s MOT approvals and enforcement work will also continue.

A vehicle needs to have a valid MOT if it is being used, except for the journey to a pre-booked MOT.

The latest Scottish Government guidance to stop the spread of coronavirus is available on the Scottish Government website.

In Scotland, by law, you and DVSA staff must wear a face covering in communal areas indoors eg: reception and retail areas, unless exempt.
