HSE is seeking individuals to support EV working groups

Date: Wednesday 12 May 2021

The HSE's Motor Vehicle Repair Forum (MVRF) is seeking individuals with detailed knowledge and experience to support its working groups in their prioritised actions.

Background
The MVRF met in December 2020 and it was decided to set up working groups (WG) to address a number of specific areas as follows:

  • WG1 - LEV (COSHH)
  • WG2 - Electric vehicles
  • WG3 - Machinery and equipment - quality and selection
  • WG4 - Roadside repair and recovery

The WGs will consist of a mix of members and subject matter experts from members, with the aim of investigating a particular topic as agreed. WG2 - Electric Vehicles is a group that covers electric vehicle issues in the MVRF, however, as this is such a wide-ranging subject it was decided to prioritise two areas initially which HSE believes will have the most impact.

Call-in Notice
HSE is now in a position to ask others to join WG2 - Electric Vehicles, to support the following prioritised actions:

  • Standard of training for those working on electric vehicles
  • Control measures required when working on electric vehicles

The WG will be supported by Fiona McGarry, H M Inspector of Health and Safety, who is seeking individuals in the fields of:

  • an awareness of related legislation and standards, or who are interested in drafting legislation/ standards
  • examples of challenges encountered and the solutions used to overcome these
  • demonstrable best practices adopted to ensure the approach has delivered the best outcomes

If you have the knowledge and skills to support this working group please email fiona.mcgarry@hse.gov.uk by 28 May 2021 providing a short synopsis or list of experience as above.

It is proposed that the first meeting will take place at 2-3pm 15 June 2021, so please hold this in your diary, but if you cannot attend this would not necessarily preclude your involvement so please so still get in touch.

If significant interest is expressed, it may be necessary to limit numbers, however, they are keen to ensure all those who can contribute are able to do so, and will therefore aim to find a way to make it work.
