FST employees are switching to bikes

Date: Thursday 05 August 2021

Freudenberg Sealing Technologies has launched the "Move on Pinerolo" initiative to promote green mobility and physical activity at its Italian site: Two Wheels Instead of Four.

Numerous employees at FST in Pinerolo want to contribute to environmental protection and motivate people in charge to expand the network of bike paths. For this purpose, they will use a free GPS app for three months until mid-September to record which bike routes they are taking and how many kilometers they are covering between their homes and work. The data is documented on a monthly basis. The initial results were encouraging: the cyclists already registered more than 1,800 kilometers.

After the three-month trial, the industrious cyclists will receive a gift based on their personal kilometer range. This will be presented to the participants during a ceremony held by the city administration to celebrate European Mobility Week.

Additionally, the bicycle pioneers will have access to special webinars for information on how they can bike as safely and comfortably as possible from A to B, how they can find the best route and what they should keep in mind when they take care of their bikes.

FST and Corteco, together with the other stakeholders involved, decided to continue cooperating in order to create a protocol that other companies could use as best practice. The main objective is to help change the general mindset of people, to use "Move on Pinerolo" as a way to empower them and to improve the project in other locations.

"We have to stay on the ball in order to develop a new mindset about green mobility within our company and beyond, while also promoting our own health. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions, the "Move on Pinerolo" project is also about establishing cycling as a long-term positive habit and generally encouraging employees to be more physically active on a day-to-day basis – with positive effects on the bodies and minds of those who love sports. " says Jennifer Scelba, "Move on Pinerolo" project manager.
