DIT webinar on new trading rules

Date: Thursday 19 November 2020

Time is rapidly running out for businesses to prepare for the end of the transition period. To reserve your place at a DIT webinar to enable you to understand the new trading rules which will come into effect from January 2021.

The UK has left the EU and will leave the EU single market and customs union in 50 days time on 31st December 2020.

In this free webinar, you'll hear from:

• Martin Cook, Deputy Director, UK Regions, Department for International Trade (DIT)
• Graham Zebedee, Director, Continuity Negotiations and Development, Department for International Trade (DIT)

The session will focus on changes and actions businesses need to take to continue trading with EU and non-EU countries from 01 January 2021, such as the UK’s tariff on imports and Free Trade Agreements. It will also include the opportunity to ask questions.

Join this webinar to learn more. Please note that spaces are limited, but the session will be repeated.

With 50 days to go – including the Christmas period – until new trading rules apply, you need to act now to continue trading with the EU from 1 January 2021.

When the transition period ends on 31 December 2020, there will be a guaranteed set of changes and opportunities for which businesses need to prepare – including changes to the way you import and export goods with the EU and non-EU countries, and the process for hiring people from the EU.

There are concrete steps you can take now to minimise disruption and take advantage of the UK’s new global trading environment from 1 January 2021. The vast majority of these actions will need to be completed regardless of the outcome of our negotiations with the EU.

To help you prepare, here are five things you should do:

  1. Visit GOV.UK/transition to take a short survey and receive a personalised list of actions that you and your business need to take.
  2. Sign up and watch webinars from BEIS and Defra to learn more about the actions you can take to ensure your business is ready for 1 January 2021.
  3. Read the online guidance about trading with the EU from 1 January 2021.
  4. If you trade internationally, find out what you need to do to continue to export goods to the EU and/or continue importing goods from the EU.
  5. Sign up to email alerts to stay up to date with any further changes.

If you have any questions about preparing for the end of the transition period and you can’t find answers at GOV.UK/transition, fill out the enquiry form and one of our experts will point you in the right direction.

If you trade with countries outside of the EU, information is also available on the steps you need to take when importing and exporting goods.
