Diesel Technic Product Portrait: 6.35213 Radiator

Date: Tuesday 03 May 2022

The engine’s operating temperature is regulated by the radiator. The radiator’s task is to ensure that the engine does not overheat, which can lead to serious damage to the mechanics of the engine; on the other hand, if the engine temperature is too low, it does not affect the engine’s service life, fuel consumption or exhaust emissions.

Along with the water pump, the radiator is thus a central component of engine thermal management and has a major influence on the efficiency of engine performance.

The radiator is located directly behind the radiator grille in the front of the engine compartment and forms part of the “long cooling circuit”. The heat generated when the engine burns fuel is transferred to the coolant. In order for the hot coolant to cool down again, it is passed through pipes surrounded by lamellas, and most of the heat is released into the ambient air. To keep the temperature constant, the flow of the coolant is controlled by a thermostat.

The radiator from DT Spare Parts is subjected to a leak test, and it also impresses in particular with its high quality with regard to the connection between the plastic side panel and the mains. This precision fit makes the radiator durable and long-lasting.

Hints & tips:

Before you replace the radiator, the cooling water must be drained and collected in the correct way. When you remove the radiator, make sure that you do not damage any of the engine’s other components. Also make sure that brackets and other installation components are screwed on correctly.

To avoid leaks, make sure that the cooling fins (lamellas) are not damaged when you install the radiator. The hoses should also be checked for cracks and replaced if necessary.

In addition, it is a good idea to check the viscosity and temperature of the cooling water, as well as its quality. If you find dirt or other foreign bodies in the water, it is better to replace it.
