Dept. for Transport and DVSA launch consultation on MOT changes

Date: Wednesday 25 January 2017

Further to the article in the IAAF eBulletin Issue 766, the Department for Transport and the DVSA have finally issued the consultation document seeking views on whether the age a vehicle gets its first MOT should be increased from 3 to 4 years.

The options being proposed are:

&bull, to keep the current period for vehicles requiring a first MOT at 3 years, with no change
&bull, to increase the age all vehicles get their first MOT from 3 to 4 years
&bull, to increase the age cars and motorcycles get their first MOT from 3 to 4 years, but keeping it at 3 years for vans in classes 4 and 7

This consultation has been expected for the last 18 months and the views we have gathered over this period would strongly suggest that the membership is in favour of keeping the status quo of 3:1:1.  ,If you have any particular views please submit your comments to us using the link below.  ,The consultation period will be for twelve weeks commencing 22 January 2017.
