COVID-19: Reminder about government guidelines

Date: Friday 05 June 2020

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to evolve on a daily basis, a number of automotive aftermarket businesses that had previously closed have begun to reopen due to increased demand . As a reminder to all our members please ensure that at all times the guidelines recommended by govt are adhered to.

The government has clearly highlighted the importance of ongoing service, repair and MOTs of emergency vehicles and those of key workers and services. So while the government, under new social distancing measures, is requiring people to stay at home, motor factors can stay open in order to supply workshops with the necessary parts, tools and information for them to repair vehicles. To assist, the IAAF has published a letter for members to give employees should they face any restrictions of movement or adverse comments on staying open. Link to letter

It is vital that all employers must follow the advice of the government, on social distancing and other measures whether this is in the warehouse, by the trade counter area or in making deliveries. Link to social distancing

Parts distributors that offer a trade counter service should adhere to the strict government social distancing measures implemented throughout all essential services.

Under current rules, employees may be called back to work when on furlough, subject to the 3 weeks’ minimum furlough duration. Furlough may be longer than 3 weeks. In addition, employees can also be made redundant when on furlough or at the end of it and their employment may be terminated for other reasons.
