NGK to sponsor major Speedway meeting

Date: 15-Mar-2019

Ignition specialist NGK will once again be the title sponsor of a major Speedway meeting in the 2019 season.

The company has extended its partnership with the Parrys International Wolverhampton team to sponsor the popular Olympique Individual meeting for a second year.

The season’s final meeting will be held on Monday, October 21 and club promoter Chris Van Straaten admits it’s yet another piece of positive news.

He said: “All-in-all it’s been a great winter for us at Wolverhampton and we’re now delighted to be linking up with NGK Spark Plugs once again.

“They entertained many customers and clients on race nights at Monmore Green last season and it was a great opportunity to introduce new people to the sport who had never been before for one reason or another.

“So we’re looking forward to working alongside them again and we’re over the moon that they’ve agreed to sponsor the Olympique for a second season running to ensure the long running event continues.”

Mark Hallam, NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Marketing Manager, said: “We are very pleased to once again be the title sponsor of such a prestigious meeting. We have a long-standing association with Wolverhampton and Speedway in general and are looking forward to continuing this relationship throughout the 2019 season.”

Last year the Olympique crowd were able to pay tribute to newly crowned World champion Tai Woffinden who was guest of honour at the Monmore Green circuit where he used to race for Wolverhampton in 2009 and 2016.

The racer had just secured his third World title to become Britain’s first-ever triple champion and thanked fans for their support at the end of what was an exciting meeting which featured a unique handicap system with riders starting behind the grid after scoring points in their previous races.

NGK staff handed out ‘goodie bags’ to fans and the company also displayed a World Championship Speedway bike once owned by four-time World champion Greg Hancock, who it sponsors.

Last season’s finale was won by three-time British champion Chris Harris, who is also sponsored by the company. Harris claimed victory after beating England’s Kyle Howarth and American Ricky Wells in a hard-fought final.
