NGK-sponsored Greg Hancock narrowly misses out on winning medal in 2018 world championship

Date: 15-Oct-2018

NGK-sponsored four-time World Speedway champion Greg Hancock has narrowly missed out on winning a medal in the 2018 World championship.

The American scored nine points at the final Grand Prix of the season in Torun, Poland to finish in fifth position in the championship, just seven points behind the third-placed rider.

However, Hancock’s performance has helped guarantee him a place in next year’s championship alongside fellow NGK-sponsored riders Emil Sayfutdinov, who came third in Torun to finish in eighth place in the championship, and Matej Zagar who scored six points in Poland and ended the season in tenth position.

Britain’s Tai Woffinden won in Torun to secure this year’s title and become the nation’s first-ever triple champion.

NGK Spark Plugs (UK) Ltd Marketing Manager Mark Hallam said: “Greg battled right to the end of the season for a championship podium but couldn’t quite make it. It was good to see Emil finish the season on a high note and I’m sure the riders will be back to their best in 2019.”
