Cold calling! How to address refrigerant legislation

Date: 20-Jun-2017

Euro Car Parts, the UK’s leading supplier of car and LCV parts, has released the latest version of its air-conditioning catalogue to help garages deliver a total service solution. Including the latest parts, machinery and consumables, the publication helps garages meet the increasingly complex servicing and repairing demands created by new air-conditioning legislation and the introduction of HFO-1234yf refrigerant earlier this year.

The catalogue features a comprehensive range of products, giving garages the tools they need to offer a simple re-gas or full service of an air-conditioning system. With aircon being used almost daily in modern cars, especially in the de-humidification process, it is increasingly an all-year commercial opportunity rather than a seasonal job for garages, with a full-service required every 12 months.

In efforts to reduce global warming, all new cars manufactured since 1 January 2017 are fitted with the new HFO-1234yf refrigerant, while older vehicles will still utilise R134a gas. To service both, garages may need to invest in new machinery that can manage units fitted with either refrigerant to avoid turning away customers. The ECK Twin Pro machine, which services aircon units with either refrigerant, is a popular choice, especially with smaller businesses.

Martin Gray, CEO of Euro Car Parts, said: “Air-conditioning maintenance is often neglected until the system stops working, meaning bigger bills for the motorist. With the right equipment, a garage can market its ability to service any unit safely and quickly.”
